1 year Peace Volunteer (Development Coordinator)

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, independent minded and resilient
person in sympathy with the values of the Society of Friends and a good
communicator to develop their commitment to peace and justice through secondment
to Youth Initiative for Human Rights (YIHR), www.yihr.org based in Belgrade,
Serbia. The placement will be for the period September 2008 to August 2009.
A strong interest in the social and political challenges of the region, together
with a commitment to acquire some day-to-day conversational ability in Serbian
is essential. The core of the work will be a mixture of fundraising and the
facilitation and linking of youth groups in regional offices. It will be varied
but sometimes routine and will include a specific personal project. The role is
complementary to existing QPSW programmes on Dealing with the Past in the
region.
Applicants must have some fundraising experience including familiarity with
logical framework analysis as well as extensive experience of youth work,
together with transferable skills in administration and IT. Adaptability,
cultural sensitivity, ability to work on one's own initiative and as part of a
team are all musts. A modest maintenance and housing allowance will be provided.
Applicants must be citizens of countries within the European Economic Area (EEA)
or Switzerland.
