1 The daily rate is currently £200, If sending out job applications, short-listing and interviewing took a day’s work, our charge would be £200.The daily charge would include all ‘direct’ costs such as postage and stationery, use of rooms as well as time. Travel costs or any fees paid to external interviewers or assessors used in interviewing, briefing and de-briefing, and any VAT would be extra.
2 Criminal Record checks are recommended for all who will be working with children and vulnerable adults. We are a registered ‘umbrella body’ and can carry out checks for a fixed fee. Agencies recruiting a number of staff or volunteers need to sign an agreement about safe storage of records, etc. and smaller agencies can use Christians Abroad direct. In the latter case there would be additional charges for registered post if returning original documents. Costs are £31 or £36 to the Criminal Records Bureau (waived for volunteers) and £15.00 (includes VAT) fee to Christians Abroad. This fee is increased for organisations which are not registered charities.
3 Preparation and debriefing conferences are usually 24 hours, but longer courses can be arranged. Daily rate is shared between all participants, so three people would be charged £66. We have an arrangement with a London Christian-run hotel and a Birmingham mission training college for special rates when overnight accommodation is needed.
4 We can recommend charities specialising in caring for the health of overseas staff.
5 Medical Insurance costs are quoted for people under 65 in teaching, administration, medical and similar posts. There are different rates for people engaged in manual work.
6 There is a special overseas National Insurance rate for ‘development’ workers in most developing countries; this includes teachers, medical staff and mission workers. Please ask for a list of countries. Christians Abroad is registered to act for people working overseas who are linked to us as volunteers.
Self-funded or part-funded individuals
Some people go to partially or fully self-funded placements. We can help to provide services for such people at little cost.
We would make a budget together including air fares, medical insurance, and a briefing/preparation session (totalling approx £1500). Included in that will be a donation of
£200 to cover our costs. If the total sum (including air fare, etc) is then donated to Christians Abroad through ‘gift aid’, we can claim back tax on it, and that covers the rest of our costs. The tax pays for all our time costs - and we then pay for the insurance, air fares, etc. In effect each individual gets their money back apart from the donation, and our time is provided at no cost.
This only works for tax-payers and if the individual agrees technically to become a Christians Abroad ‘volunteer’. |
