Work Teams wanted in South Africa
Teams wanted for community building projects in South Africa. The Gateway Project, based in Pietermaritzburg, is looking for teams of Christian volunteers to help with practical work such as renovation and building work for various poverty-alleviating projects. Cost for one month: £2500. Reductions for groups. The total cost includes air fares, visa, insurance, accommodation, subsistence and a donation towards the cost of Christians Abroad administration. Please be aware that air fares vary according to season.
Experience of DIY or the building industry would be most helpful although most important is a serving attitude and an openness to learn. Visit of two weeks upwards by teams are provided with good accommodation, modern amenities, food, training, materials and transport. Teams stay in the cell block accommodation on the site of The Old Prison where Project Gateway is based. Built into the project are opportunities for volunteers to visit Lesotho, game parks or abseiling or other activities that the teams may wish to participate in. Teams can also get involved helping in Gateway Christian School, Esther House (a women’s refuge) as well as helping with local feeding schemes in the local community. Gateway organizes a three day safari and beach trip for an extra £200 – very popular!
