How it Works

Here is a guide to the process Christians Abroad will go through with you as a volunteer for one of our partner projects:

alt You may decide to telephone us and leave a message on our enquiry line or e-mail us directly with an enquiry. Your initial enquiry will be responded to as soon as possible. An email or telephone conversation will usually follow and this may lead to you completing an application form.

altYou may have already completed an application form downloaded from our website and e-mailed it to us as an attachment. Alternatively you will have posted a completed application form to us. If your application is successful, you will be contacted to arrange a telephone interview. Occasionally we may arrange a face to face interview particularly if the opportunity provided is likely to be for more than three months.

altFollowing the interview, a decision will be made regarding your suitability for our placement process. If positive, references will be sought without delay. We will also contact your preferred project to confirm availability of a place for you at the time and for the duration you have indicated.

altThis is the stage of firm commitment.  We will send you our Volunteer Agreement form which outlines the things we think necessary to prepare for a successful experience. You will be told the full cost of the placement at this time. You show your commitment by returning the signed form together with a first payment of £750 towards the cost of administration and your travel and health insurance .  Receiving your cheque or payment online commits us to making the necessary arrangements for the agreed placement for you. We will also ask you to sign and return a gift-aid declaration (if applicable) with the Volunteer Agreement and your payment.  Christians Abroad undertakes to provide you with the placement for the length of time promised without any additional charges to the full cost quoted unless you change your plans after final arrangements have been made.

altThe remaining balance will be required about three months before the placement begins. We will then arrange the flight and a visa for your trip.  You will also be provided with a CRB check if the placement involves contact with children or vulnerable adults.

altPreparations for the trip will include your arranging the necessary medical check and any inoculations necessary and completing a contact and security checklist.

altYou fly out to the project! We will keep in email contact with you during your stay, if possible. Should any problems arise we will work with you and the project leaders to resolve these successfully. We would value your feedback so that our information about projects is kept up to date.

altAfter your return, we will arrange a meeting with you if possible, so that you can share your experiences and thoughts with us. This feedback is important for both parties and contributes greatly to the success of future volunteer placements, either by yourself or by others.
