Teach in an Indian School

altWylie Memorial High School invites Christian qualified teachers to volunteer for six months to a year in this modern, well-equipped institution in the Punjab. The cost for a year is £2250. Free board and lodging plus an honorarium of £35 a month.

Situated in Ludhiana in the Indian Punjab, Wylie Memorial High school caters for children from three to sixteen years old. It offers a wide range of subjects and encourages volunteers to assist in after-school clubs as well. The school year begins in April. On the job hands-on training will be provided. Any further support required will be given. There are many churches of different denominations in the neighbourhood.

Electricity, tap water, en-suite rooms (may need to share) fitted with fans/desert coolers (in summer) or heat convectors (in winter). Telephone and internet access are available in the school. International calls will be charged at actual cost. The volunteers will need to be registered with the local police for which the school will take responsibility. The Christian Medical College and Hospital, a multi speciality hospital, is next door. They will be met at IGI Airport, Delhi, by Sunil Pillay and transportation will be arranged for. A similar trip back to the Delhi airport at the end of their term with us will also be provided.

Christians Abroad has not yet recruited volunteers for this project but has received good references from local Christian sources and from schools in the UK.

Cost: The total cost includes air fares, visa, insurance and the Christians Abroad administration fee. Please be aware that air fares vary according to season. Board and lodging are provided free of charge, which, with the honorarium of £35 a month, makes this a very low cost placement.

More information: The school has links with several schools in the UK and more information and photographs are available on its website www.wyliehigh.com.
