Community Support, Teaching, Working with Children or Animals or the Environment in South Africa

altVolunteers Unlimited of Cape Town, South Africa offers many opportunities for voluntary community service with orphans, abused girls and women and disabled people. In addition, sports for disadvantaged youth, primary school teaching assistance and work preserving nature and animals are available. Cost: One month, £2400, three months, £2800.

You are met by VUSA at the airport. Volunteers working with these projects mostly stay within walking distance of their projects with a host family who normally provides meals. However, mid day meals are sometimes eaten at the project site with residents/participants/children. Accommodation, electricity, water and meals are provided at no extra cost. The minimum requirements are that you are at least 18 years of age and have a liking for children. If you have appropriate qualification or experience, they would be very welcome. You do not have to have Christian commitment but it would be appropriate if you did. There are many voluntary Christian activities that you could be a part of if you wished.  There are plenty of opportunities for sports and recreation. These placements are suitable for a single person or married couple. Schools can be arranged for accompanying children. You will need to provide for your own personal spending. There is internet access in the town and most homes have telephone, electricity and safe drinking water. You would be responsible to a supervisor or team leader during your stay. Induction into the project and Cape Town is given and training where required.

Costs:   Total price includes air fares, visa,  insurance, accommodation, meals and the Christians Abroad administration fee.
