Community Support, Children, Health Care, Journalism, Administration, Sports Coaching in Ghana
This ‘Volunteer in Africa’ project is based in the large modern city of Accra. Volunteers are needed to care for orphans, teach from nursery to junior high school level, assist with health care, journalism, administration in legal chambers and sports coaching. Cost: One month £2100, three months £2700. This includes air fares, visa, insurance, accommodation, subsistence and a donation towards the cost of Christians Abroad administration.
Volunteers stay with reputable host families. Three meals a day and two bottles of purified mineral water are provided. Modern amenities are available nearby.
In the orphanage programme, caring work includes assisting in cooking for the children, bathing them and showing them love. Volunteers can also assist in teaching English and other subjects and help with extra curriculum activities.
In the teaching programme, volunteers assist in teaching English language, mathematics and other subjects or extra curriculum activities at nursery, primary and junior secondary schools. A local teacher in the school will guide volunteers.
Medical and nursing student volunteers observe and assist in the health care delivery work of local medical doctors and nurses and other health care professionals at hospitals.
Participants in the journalism programme may volunteer with newspapers and magazines, publications, photography, film production or media-based awareness projects.
Participants in the law programme volunteer with legal professionals, practitioners and legal chambers. This placement is for law students. Work involves general office work at legal chambers and observing work activities at law courts.
Volunteers who like sport can participate by teaching soccer, basketball, baseball, volleyball, swimming and a variety of other sports to local talents at schools and communities.
