SPECIAL CLASS 2 CONTRIBUTIONS
Christians Abroad can act as Agent for volunteers who are working in countries approved by the HMRC as 'developing countries' as part of the Voluntary Development Worker National Insurance (VDW NI) scheme. It is possible to pay a special class 2 contribution which provides certain employment benefits plus contributions towards pension entitlement of UK citizens normally resident in the UK.

BENEFIT OF ASSOCIATE VOLUNTEER STATUS
Christians Abroad will provide this service to volunteers working in Mission or Development providing your application to Christians Abroad as an Associate Volunteer is accepted. (Volunteers who are already professional appointments made through Christians Abroad usually for periods of two years or more and are working in scheme appropriate countries will already be eligible for VDW NI contributions.)

HMRC WEBSITE
To be pay special class 2 contributions towards the VDW NI scheme, you must be eligible for payment of VDW NI contribution. (For more information, please look at the HMRC WEBSITE link which will take you to leaflet NI38. The details of the scheme for those working overseas are between pages 13 and 18 - with p18 suggesting you complete a form which is on p36 and 37.)

AS A VOLUNTEER WITH ANOTHER AGENCY
If you are a volunteer or professional working with a UK agency which already has a management arrangement with Christians Abroad, your status as Associate Volunteer is already established and usually your contributions and administration charges are paid for by the UK sending agency.

AS AN INDEPENDENT TRAVELLER
If you are an independent volunteer or professional worker and will hope to make your own financial arrangements for payment, then please complete the application form as an Associate Volunteer to be found at the bottom of the page on THIS LINK and submit the form electronically as suggested. Christians Abroad will be in touch with you to make arrangements with you for VDW NI contributions. You will need to complete CF83 at the back of leaflet NI38 (see paragraph above) and send a pdf of the completed form by attachment to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. PROCESS
Following agreement to accept your application as an Associate Volunteer and receipt of your completed CF83 form, your application to pay special class 2 contributions will be made to the HMRC. On acceptance by the HMRC, Christians Abroad will inform you when you need to make payment for your contributions. An administration charge of 8% (about £20 a year) is made for processing.
