Donations

DONATIONS TOWARDS THE COST OF A PLACEMENT IN AN INTERNATIONAL PROJECT:

These are made by volunteers or associate volunteers of Christians Abroad as contributions towards air fares, visas, accommodation etc., necessary for participation in the international project. They represent a restricted donation to Christians Abroad to support the work of the international project, enabling you to travel to the project and live in and around the project for the period that you are there. These funds are held by Christians Abroad in a personal account from which the necessary payments are made. You may at any time request a statement of account showing how much money you have donated for this purpose and how much money has been used on your behalf, and on behalf of the project, in your travel and subsistence. If we are unable to fulfil the purpose of the donation then the donation will be returned to you.

Donations that are used for the purposes described above may be GIFT AIDED to Christians Abroad. Christians Abroad uses the GIFT AID to help develop the range of projects that Christians Abroad supports. It will in future also enable Christians Abroad personnel to visit the project and its administration at least once every three years to help monitor the quality of the opportunity provided and also ensure the appropriate use of resources. At the present time, Christians Abroad largely relies upon assessments by returned volunteers or other trusted referees of projects, before accepting them as one of the group of projects supported by Christians Abroad. Christians Abroad will continue to use such referees, but feels it also important to exercise on-going quality assurance on your behalf.

DONATIONS TO THE SUPPORT COSTS OF CHRISTIANS ABROAD:

These are made by volunteers, associate volunteers and Friends of CTBI Christians Abroad to help Christians Abroad provide services to those individuals that are placed through us. Christians Abroad helps individuals with decisions and choices about an international placement. It makes the arrangements for the placement and ensures that the volunteer has had a medical check and received medical advice, is well prepared in thinking through the implications of the placement, has completed a CRB check and ensures that adequate and appropriate insurance is in place. It also ensures that appropriate air tickets are purchased with flexible return dates. During their project, some volunteers wish to extend their time overseas, either to stay working a little longer or to undertake some further adventure or a holiday. A very few may want to return early for a variety of personal reasons. Christians Abroad stays in touch with the volunteer throughout the placement, and after he or she returns to the United Kingdom. We have a lot of experience of managing international placements. Donations to our support costs help cover expenses, which mostly relate to time spent by Christians Abroad consultants.

These donations can be GIFT AIDED and the GIFT AID is set aside to provide some support to those volunteers who would not otherwise be able to afford an international placement. They also help supplement general support costs.

BY PROVIDING A DONATION YOU ARE ENABLING THIS WORK TO CONTINUE

  • Volunteering is a life changing experience creating value and fellowship
  • An international placement provides a channel for individuals to make a practical contribution to community development projects
  • All projects are supported by the Christian community.
