Examples of jobs at different disclosure levels:

1. Standard Disclosure: Veterinary surgeons, accountants, school ancillary staff with no regular contact with children

2. Enhanced Disclosure: Teachers at all levels of education for those under 18, most nurses, childminders, paediatricians, adoptive and foster parents, drivers regularly transporting children.

For volunteer placements of those attached to hostels, residential homes, schools, or working with youth groups, mentally disabled people of any age, the Enhanced Disclosure would seem appropriate.

All applicants applying for a Standard Disclosure will have a check made on the National Police Computer. If the position involves working with children at any level a check will also be made on relevant DH and DfEE lists of those considered unsuitable to work with children. Enhanced Disclosures include material held in local police records.

Previous overseas employment:

The CRB cannot check on the records of people who have worked overseas. Though most EU countries have similar arrangements, this varies, and it is largely unavailable outside Europe. If this information is believed to be important, contact addresses can be given, but recruiting agencies must use their own judgement for those whose main career has been outside the UK

The service is provided for organisations based in England and Wales that are recruiting staff or finding volunteers, regardless of where the volunteer/staff member will work – with one exception. If a post is in Scotland, the process will have to be through the Scottish Criminal Records Office. Both offices have access to the same UK-wide databases. Christians Abroad is registered in England and Wales and the service will cover all organisations recruiting people resident in the UK who are joining UK staff or going overseas as a volunteer, missionary or staff member.
