Assist with teaching and sport in Tanzania.

altVolunteers are needed for educational and sporting activities in Tanzania, East Africa. Placements are organised by ‘Caretakers of the Environment’ in cooperation with Christians Abroad. Cost: One month, £2500, three months, £3200.  The total price includes air fares, visas, insurance, health and CRB checks, accommodation and a donation to Christians Abroad towards the cost of administration.

Caretakers of the Environment is based in Mwanza on the shores of Lake Victoria in northern Tanzania.

The activities that volunteers participate in are: teaching English, maths and other subjects at a centre for street children, together with facilitating games and other fun activities there. They can also choose to participate in the football project, assist in coaching disadvantaged and street children daily, and go to different schools to coach football and help pick out talented players for the football academy.

The project accommodation is not only home to volunteers of the project but also to other visitors to the area (hostel style!). Therefore, you will be meeting with others from outside the main project and have the opportunity to spend time with different people.

Lunch can be purchased near the centre for a very reasonable price. Food for dinner and breakfast can be purchased at local supermarkets and markets. In addition, the numerous restaurants and cafes around the city are safe for volunteers to eat in, which means you have access to a range of food and you have the opportunity to try some local cuisine.

There is an electric cooker with rings that volunteers can use to cook their meals. Travellers from the UK fly to Dar Es Salaam and then up to Mwanza by a local internal flight.

The Serengeti National park is easily accessible for weekend trips.
