Christians Aboard works to serve the Christian community and beyond as an advice and support agency for individuals and organisations. We do this by giving advice and information; by responding to requests for volunteers or locally paid staff in schools, hospitals and community projects
in the developing world; and by giving practical help to individuals and organisations. In its service to the Christian community we work with all denominations and churches, serving all who want to support mission and development work through their personal input. We do not ask for agreement to any specific statement of faith, and acknowledge that there are many approaches to mission and development. Through the advice and information service
World Service Enquiry we also serve the wider community of people of all faiths or none, and acknowledge the contribution made by them to world development. We encourage Christians to work cooperatively within secular agencies too. More specifically: -
We help individual Christians link with
volunteer and professional opportunities overseas. -
We help overseas Christian churches, hospitals and schools find staff and volunteers. -
We work with British and Irish churches to find staff for their overseas programmes through advertising vacancies, and through our overseas personnel programme. -
We provide support and back-up for volunteers and others through
Travel and Health Insurance, our
Get Practical
guide, and other Practical Help. -
We serve agencies through organising events as varied as Career Days, Briefing and De-briefing sessions and organise Criminal Record checks. -
Information and advice about volunteering and working in development to people of every faith or none, through our World Service Enquiry. Among other activities, WSE publishes a monthly job list, Opportunities Abroad, an annual Guide to Volunteering, an email coaching service and a
book Working in Development
plus other career development services.
History Christians Abroad was established
as an ecumenical agency in 1973 and is managed by a Council, half of whose members are appointed by Churches Together in Britain and Ireland (CTBI) and half for their individual expertise. The Council is the final decision-making body, but an Executive Committee monitors financial and personnel matters and advises the Council.
Christians Abroad is a non-profit organisation, a registered charity in England (number 265867) and a limited company (number 1110421). Grants and Donations
Most of the advice and information work of Christians Abroad's World Service Enquiry is based on considerable research, and is only possible with support from grants and donations. Income from sales and services largely covers direct costs of all our programmes, but not staff and overhead costs. We are very grateful to our major donors for their support, but welcome donations, large or small, so that we can improve our service. Donations can be made by cheque, credit card, CAF card and Gift Aid more>
